My Marketing Internship At Sage Corps

I interned at the Chicago-based education startup, Sage Corps, during the summer of 2018. As part of an agile and tight-knit team, I took charge of a diverse set of responsibilities ranging from website UX design, Ad and email campaigns, brochure creation, to marketing strategy analysis.
The experience helped hone my skills in data analytics, Ad management, email campaigning, web development, and graphic design.

That's me!
Data Analytics
Social Media Post Reach
I analyzed data across various key social media platforms (such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn) and delivered monthly social reports. I identified significant spikes in engagement and discovered statistical correlations between post reach and specific contents.
Based on the results, I developed tailored guidelines for our social platforms (post frequency, time, day, tags, image placement etc.) which are applied to our daily social media activities.
Audience/ Customer Analysis
I inspected the audience of our websites and social media platforms for the most commonly expressed interests. From there I codified several trends that are not directly relevant but reveals useful traits and preferences such as "Natural Living" and "Quick and Easy". Based on these identified characteristics, I then adjust our campaigns to play to these inclinations, for instance incorporating keywords such as "Leadership", "Nature", "Premium" etc.
Email Campaigns
Sage Corps uses SendGrid to manage their emails. They had previously just sent out general informational emails to a massive database of student emails consisting of over 250,000 people. I decided to design a more targeted system that distinguishes the contact's school, grade, and previous responses/engagement. The following is a diagram I made to represent the funnel system I've designed for our email campaigns:
This allows for a more relatable experience for the email recipient as I began to target the message to their school as well as their current career-searching status (internship, full-time etc.). Furthermore, by tracking their responses to our previous emails, we apply different approaches and provide more relevant information in the ensuing emails. For instance, if they have opened the email but not clicked into our links, we can assess that they were interested in our service but for whatever reason needs further incentivization to engage with us. We will then send a follow-up email dedicated for that purpose: testimonies from our program alums, scholarship programs, blog posts about our program locations etc.
